In April 2005 three year old Bobby Wright was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma, a rare aggressive childhood cancer, which had spread to his bone marrow.

The European survival rate for stage 4 Neuroblastoma is 20%.

Since Bobby's Diagnosis Kevin, (Bobby's dad) has continued to spend all his time educating himself about cancer treatments from around the world, from all types of medicine and so he embarked on a fully integrated, holistic approach to Bobby's cancer fight so he would leave no stone unturned. Kevin discovered that the Neuroblastoma antibody program had been shelved in Europe, so Bobby had to go to America to have the best treatment in the world, which all parents would want.

The American survival rate for stage 4 Neuroblastoma is 60%

However, the deposit required to start treatment in American is $350,000. The Wright's do not own their own home or indeed anything of a significant value so Bobby Wright's Cancer Fighting Fund was formed.

Throughout 2006 we successfully raised enough money to send Bobby to the Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Centre (www.mskcc.org) in New York for  Immunotherapy, the sixth and final protocol of orthodox  treatment for Neuroblastoma, agreed in Europe as long ago as 2004, which is currently unavailable in Europe and will not be generally available here for at least 5 years.

How The Fundraising Began

Through Kevin's determination to save his son, Roger Briscoe utilised his 30 years experience and knowledge in sales and advertising to raise the substantial amount of £220,000 needed to pay for Bobby's treatment in the U.S. and went on to raise over £400,000.

He set up a small call centre in an out-building of the family home and together with family and friends; the fight to save Bobby began!

We started with a well structured script and equipped the out-building with 17 telephones in small booths. Using only the telephone directory, we started cold calling the general public and sold them raffle tickets.

The public response was overwhelming, and with help of the media coverage we received, by the time we held our final raffle of 2006 (December) the call centre had grown to 60 telephones manned by volunteers and paid staff, with an administration department of 11 staff.. The call centre closed on 20/12/06 Job Done!

Bobby's Fund Finances

The money raised for Bobby's treatment was deposited at the Royal Bank of Scotland, available at a moments notice should Bobby relapse. The surplus & return on Bobby's treatment fund is used to finance Bobby's Fund and is committed to providing the money needed to families unable to finance the fully intergrated, holistic treatment plan, that Bobby enjoyed.

Bobby's orthodox treatment lasted just 5 months, and now 2 years on Bobby is cancer free, suffering no long term side effects (no hearing loss, kidney damage, stunted growth, serious bowel disturbances as the doctor's assured us he would have).

He eats only organic unprocessed food and freshly pressed fruit and veg juice. This in our opinion is one of the reasons Bobby responded so well to treatment, suffered minimal short term side effects and remained infection free while without an immune system.
